Meditation is the perfect vehicle for knowing yourself better. In Mindfulness meditation, you discover how well (or not) you are able to focus and stay in the present moment. Open Awareness meditation has you experiencing the inner world, the outer local world, then expanding to the edges of the universe. Loving-Kindness meditation improves your compassion and empathy. All meditation provides a path to releasing and relaxing physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Work meditation into the cracks in your life. In between your meditation sessions, stay centered by following these four steps each time you have one minute to spare:
- Pause. Disconnect from the world of time and space and simply be.
- Notice. Examine your thoughts, feelings, and body sensations. Be a loving observer. Accept the moment without judgment.
- Breathe. Take a couple of deep breaths. Relax into your center and align with your spirit.
- Be Grateful. Place your hand on your heart and thank yourself for stopping to care for your soul. Then call to mind a person, place, or thing for which you are grateful, smile, and say, “thank you, thank you, thank you.”
