Countdown to Thanksgiving – Day 29

I am grateful for Music - My soul sings as I listen.

There’s that song again! You know the one that tells your story – the words, the melody, the rhythm, the harmony – the song speaks to your soul.
You hear “that song,” and suddenly you are transported to another time and place. There is magic in music.
Take a moment today and track down a song that delights your heart and soothes your mind.
Then sit, close your eyes, and listen.

If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough. Meister Eckhart

Once upon a time, I was in love, and then I wasn’t. The breakup was sudden, unexpected, heart-rending and Phil Collins’ song, “In the Air Tonight,” was the popular song of the moment. The lyrics are dark and gloomy and suited my mood and attitude perfectly. I returned to this song for this exercise – would it still evoke deep dark feelings? I found it online, put on my headphones, shut my eyes, and listened. As I heard the familiar drums and words, I could feel myself remembering feelings and emotions, but no details – I smiled as I listened. The person I was and the person I am now are disconnected in time. A song that once brought tears now causes me to smile at the memory. I am grateful for the passage of time and the healing that it brings.
