Countdown to Thanksgiving – Day 30

I am grateful for Beauty – I see Beauty everywhere.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and on the first day of our countdown, look for Beauty in every encounter. Look deep to see the underlying Beauty, even when superficially, things are not appealing.

Take a moment today and look closely and carefully at three things in your environment. Find the Beauty and let it weave its way into your heart. Choose to see Beauty.

When I wrote Day 30, I was thinking about seeing Beauty in something I wouldn’t consider beautiful – perhaps a hole in the ground, a fallen tree limb, a pothole, a street sign with a warning on it. I believed I would need to go outside, walk around the neighborhood, and seek out the unappealing. But I never got that far as Day 30 morphed into a mindfulness exercise – reminding me of the Beauty that I miss because I am distracted by tasks and doing things. My home is beautiful – functional – practical. I love it, and even though I am home most of the time, I don’t see it and the Beauty that I have created.

Realizing this, I started the exercise again – this time, I walked mindfully through my own home – open to the Beauty of the art on my walls, the music playing from my carefully selected playlists, and my well-stocked kitchen.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder – what I needed to learn was to behold mindfully.
